What is PARCR?

The Pennsylvania Alliance of Retirement Community Residents (PARCR) is an organization of residents of not-for-profit retirement communities involved in the governance of their own communities.

PARCR represents twenty-seven (27) retirement communities located in South Eastern Pennsylvania. Each community designates three voting representatives from their resident council to serve as the llaison between their council and the organization. In addition, there are "individual members" from the member communities who take an active role. PARCR meets quarterly in a different member community each time.

Pennsylvania boasts approximately 200 not-for-profit retirement communities. Retirement communities represent a vast resource of older adults who have knowledge and skills gained through extensive practical experiences. Residents' councils in these retirement communities encourage the utilization of these talents to enhance the quality of life and activities in retirement communities.

PARCR works closely with LeadingAge PA, the National Continuing Care Retirement Association (NaCCRA), and LeadingAge USA. While not a political organization, PARCR advocates vigorously in support of issues related to seniors.

You are invited to contact current President, Ida Jeanne Smith, for additional information at ijsmit@comcast.net.
